Despin, didn't you stick a short up here a while back then someone said you stole it from them... they had posted a script a few weeks prior that was the same idea?

However, I wouldn't let it get you down too much, seems like every time I pitch an idea the person says; 'Hmm, sounds a bit like...', and most the time you've never even seen the film in question! But at the end of the day, if you break films down to the core, then you could say that it's all been done- but don't be downhearted. Sellotape the pencil back together and get back to the drawing board.

Things that like happen all the time to me as well. I've realised that these things must enter the subconcious somehow because its often too much of a coincidence.

That White Face film that you posted a link to has been done before as well though. I saw a Scottish funded short about clowns that had pretty much the same idea.

That's unlucky Despin. You could still do it though - just chose a slightly different subject (ie not racism - do sexism, or political correctness, or something that interests you...).

It would still be a very different piece.

Lots of ideas out there are very similar - it's the execution that seperates them...

Oh yeah and the original question - I'm not an expert by any means on this but I remember reading that if you get people's permission befforehand then it's okay. Depending on what you do with the film you may need to get people to sign a form. And you may need to explain that you may take their comments out of context...

I'm sure others will have more info on this...

the more something happens the more it is likely to happen ...

if you are going to be re-editing out of context you should certainly get those involved to sign a release form which basically says you can do what you want with the footage and they have no legal recourse.
